What makes someone an expert?  What makes someone a neighborhood or real estate expert?

What makes someone an expert?

When I was in industry, I was presented with the potential opportunity of me being the Concrete Subject Matter Expert for the largest construction and engineering company in the world. We are not talking sidewalks and driveways but rather billion-dollar projects with massive structural concrete placements larger than the city of Roswell.

At age 35, while knowledgeable and experienced, I had to personally reflect as to whether or not I was qualified to be the leading expert. What qualities someone as an expert?   More relevant to this forum, what makes someone a neighborhood real estate expert?

I personally find the following traits to apply in being an expert:

·        Knowledge – presently knowing something as much or better than anyone else does

·        Experience – having a proven track record of repeatedly excelling in something

·        Ability and willingness to effectively communicate their expertise to others

·        Closely connected to other experts and the community in which they represent and serve

·        Being humble about their expertise but confident to express it for the benefit of others

·        Continually learning, being innovative, embracing change and not holding onto “how things use to be" 10 years ago or even just last month

·        Enjoyment in sharing their expertise to the benefit of others

·        Aware of the limitations of their knowledge

·        Contributing to their field of expertise

·        Acknowledged as being an expert by cutomers, clients and their peers.

For me, as it relates to being your dedicated Martin's Landing neighborhood real estate expert, it's much of the above, coupled with personally understanding the specific needs of each individual homeowner while maintaining an in-depth knowledge of the community past. present and future as it relates to my continual tracking and study of all sales trends and data (micro and macro) for the purpose of helping you maximize your net proceeds in the sale of your home.
